I think he was conflicted, but what he wanted to do was kill Han because it would mean he's “strong enough" to overcome his doubts and the light and embrace the dark side. (So I sort of agree about Kylo's words.)

And maybe that's why I like that scene. The dialogue wasn't Shakespeare, but I thought it worked and the actors hit it out of the park.

Yeah, that was my interpretation too, and I thought it was well-done. Though I tend to be a little easier to please in terms of emotional scenes in movies, maybe because I am an emotional/easily moved person myself.
