I think comparing the struggles of (straight) women and gay men is apples and oranges. I am comfortable, however, asserting that gay men definitely face more active and violent oppression than women. Women obviously face oppression that men do not and being gay can be an "invisible" thing, but oppression is a complex thing and trying to put groups on some kind of latter is silly and misleading.

Women as a class face rape. What's the worst thing gay men endure? Not being able to get a cake made in certain stores? When we have stephen fucking fry telling us women need to grow up about rape because no-one cares if we're affect by it... It just boggles the mind that anyone can say men have it worse.

I think what anon was trying to say is women and gay men as a whole face completely different kinds of oppression, not that one is worse.

But honestly, as a woman and a feminist, you're kind of embarrassing me in this thread with your yelling that women are SO MUCH MORE OPPRESSED and willingness to throw gay men under the bus.

-Gay men face rape. Yes, systematic rape.
-Gay men are beat up, murdered, for being gay
-Gay men can be LEGALLY imprisoned and executed in many countries, even in the US not so long ago
-Gay men are viewed as a threat to masculinity and face the brunt of macho masculine culture
-Gay men are often forced to hide their orientation for fear of being disowned, fired, etc. Remember that it is completely legal to fire someone for being gay, or kick them out of housing, or deny them business in many US states because sexual orientation is not a protected status in all states... being a woman is.
-Gay men are viewed as perverts and rapists, and the target of biblical outrage
-Gay men are shamed, harassed, driven to suicide because of their gayness.

Seriously, fuck you. you have no fucking idea what it's like to be a gay person.
