I was wondering that too, because "old people smell" isn't exactly sad, it's just part of growing old.

Maybe because it's a sign of the body's deterioration?

Hm, idk, I mean wrinkles and gray hair are also signs of the body's deterioration but those aren't usually considered too sad to explain to kids?
