Seems to me it'd be easy for someone to see her book as... I dunno, YA fantasy or whatever? I don't read these things -- and pick it up on that basis without any knowledge of the author, whose history is kind of obscure to someone who isn't at least moderately immersed in fandom and over a certain age.

I guess because I was a teenager when all of that happened with her and it was such a big part of my life and my social circle at the time that I forget people haven't heard about it.
