Re-reads

How often do you re-read your favorite books? Does it vary a lot from book to book? Are you re-reading or thinking of re-reading anything right now?

It depends on the book - some I reread on a regular schedule (Bridget Jones's Diary every January comes to mind), others I will reread in a specific mood. If it's a series, a reread will usually happen when I want a project.

I re-read american gos at least once a year. Every time it starts snowing, in fact.

I haven't done so in a while but it is the ONE book I re-read. Any others I have no real interest in doing so. However, I did re-listen to the audiobook of Silver Linings Playbook immediately after finishing it. I love how it's a fairly macho book that isn't at all macho. And it is much better than the movie (I liked the movie.)

It really varies. There are certain books I'll reread on nearly every long trip I go on because they are fun books. Other books I'll reread every 4-5 years.

Currently what I'm doing is reading other books by my favorite authors. So I'm reading tons of Timothy Zahn's other books.

I re-read more often than I read lately, having had a long string of terrible luck with books. At the moment I'm rereading The Fifth Elephant, as Discworld is always a good 'default' when I can't choose anything else.

Whenever I feel like it. Usually there's a few years between readings, but I used to read and reread much more often.

Short stories, I probably reread more often.

Not a whole lot, I think I've only read a few standalone books more than once, and those were books from my childhood. My favorite two book series (HP and WoT) I've each read multiple times, but only read the last book once (so far). I think I did a cumulative re-read for each before the last book, at least I know I did for WoT.

I don't re-read entire books, but I do find myself picking up books and re-reading certain parts that I like.

I only reread 2-3 of my favorite books. I reread fanfic way more often because it is handily available.

I never re-read anything and rarely re-watch things, I feel like I'm wasting time if I do...

Wasting time that would be better spent on Fandom Secrets????

I can think of no better way to waste time than spending it on Fandom Secrets.

My reading habits have gone to shit over the last several years so I mostly just re-read my favorite PKD and William Gibson novels these days.

Definitely no set schedule or even pattern at all. I re-read when I'm craving a particular book.

Honestly all the time. I reread Cirque Du Freak series as a whole more often than anything else. All 12 books are on my phone and if I don't feel like going online, I just pick a book and keep reading.

Lately a lot, since I don't really have time to go to the library or look for something new. Since I own a lot of my favorite books it's easy to just pluck one off the shelf when I'm bored.

I try to reread Diana Wynne Jones every year, or at least those books of hers I own. It's usually in the summer. This time the reread itself seems to be stretching out to be a year of its own, though, since I don't have much time for reading these days.

I might read my favourite classics every two years or so. I keep cheap penguin classics in my travel bags and free pdfs on my laptop and tablet so they end up being something to do when I'm without internet. Everything else is just when I'm reminded of how much I liked it.

I just listened to books 1-4 of Harry Potter because my eyes needed a rest.

I re-read (or listen to) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy every Christmas. I read it for the first time during Christmas, so I always get nostalgic for it then. So that means I've read it...32 times. Holy shit, I'm old.

Re: Re-reads

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Whenever. Usually once every couple years.

But I also tend to dip in to my favorite books. Like, a lot of the time, I'll just think of a particular scene from a book I love for whatever reason, and then go back just to read that scene. And then end up getting caught up in and reading another 100 pages on from there, obviously. But, yeah, it's definitely a lot more common for me to do that then to sit down and decide to reread something in its entirety.

I've got five or six books I read yearly.

I read The Secret Garden, Jane of Lantern Hill, The Blue Castle and my old Betsy-Tacy books fairly regularly--also, I have a soft spot in my heart for The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, which somehow feels like a winter book to me, and every now and then I go back to that.
