It was like that when we bought it. Also, we have a copy of the sidewalk encroachment permit that the previous owners got from the city when they put it in, so there's nothing untoward going on.

I love the usage of the word untoward in the context of a garden. Like if there was something untoward going on, it might be buried bodies or something of that ilk. XD

Speaking of possible bodies... When we were renovating the basement we did find some women's clothing that looked like it was from the 30's or 40's stuffed into one of the walls.

Didn't find any bones or anything, but it's entirely possible there's a skeleton in the foundation somewhere.

I did not keep them. They were in pretty bad condition and not really worth much of anything.
