So, the Japanese just like EVERY culture in the world is fascinated by foreigners.

Also, just like every time this outrage for Asian people happens (like the Avril Lavigne video or people wearing kimonos), most Asian people could not give two fucks about it.

It's about their culture and white people benefitting from it. If they'd hired a black actress for the role, I wouldn't give a shit, you wouldn't give a shit, but the Japanese might be pissed off. In that scenario, they would be in the wrong, because it is not about them, their tastes and sensibilities, it's about what's right.

I think you're a troll, but in case you're not, at least you're upfront about how it's all about hating white people/your massively-embarrassing white-guilt-complex for you, and you don't actually give a shit about POCs. Ftr, the Asian people would be correct in either scenario, they get to be pissed that a culturally specific Asian role is going to an actress of a different ethnicity (white or black), and the Internet's double-standard on the matter is an ugly look.

It isn't about Asian people tho. It's about American people making a movie about Asian people, adapted for Americans. The role would never have gone to a Japanese person because it's not a Japanese movie. But it should have gone to a Japanese- or other Asian-American. Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Which one? Ghost in the Shell, or Death Note? Because I could see a localization of Death Note setting it in a white community, and Hollywood is not capable of doing a better live-action version of a Japanese setting than has already been done by Japan's own film industry.

except plenty of asian celebrities are speaking out against whitewashing, but sure continue the narrative that minorities don't care about being erased, it's just the SJWs! because we got a handful of Japanese people saying they didn't understand the problem.

no the problem is that people keep confusing japanese people with asian americans. the majority of japanese people don't mind it. the majority of asian american people are affected and do mind, though, because it's about them getting or not getting used in important roles in hollywood, and it's about their representation. i.e. it's a thing that is about US racial politics, not about oppressed POC peoples of the earth (which the japanese are not.)
