After the First Death fucked me UP when I read it as a kid. What do you love about it?

It was the first book I read that did not have a happy ending. I think before that I didn't truly realize that stories could end unhappily. It was amazing to me.

Ah, I didn't remember that, but that's probably why it was so disturbing to me. That, and the one scene I vaguely remember: when the bus driver had to pee in the bus and one of the hijackers watched her. Made me feel gross in ways I could not then articulate. :/ I was probably too young to be reading it, tbh.
