I'm not quite done with season 9, PLEASE nobody spoil me for anything Beth or Jack related (or anything else, really). In fact, I'm going to presume anything that could be construed as a spoiler is just trolls making things up to mess with me.

I adore the moments Hotch shares with Jack, because a) seeing him in dad mode is adorable, and b) like you note, he smiles so much then.

And aw at Hotch/Beth :). I honestly shake my head at the intense hatred some fans had for Beth-she's a nice person and treated Hotch well and made him happy. I get fans have their beloved Hotch-related ships they wanted to be canon and all, but seriously...

And some of us have yet to have any Hotch ships, but hated how he became a 14-year-old with his first crush around her.

I'm not opposed to him having a relationship, I would just like him to act like an adult in it. As much as I didn't like Haley, I far preferred that relationship because he was an adult.

I should've clarified, sorry-in my experience, it's been shippers I've run into who hated Beth. But you're right that not everyone's dislike was shipping-based, too.

I can kinda see the "acting like a teenager" thing, but I don't see it in a bad way. He was with Haley since high school, so he'd been out of the dating game since then, and given his age, that's a looooong time. So I think it makes total sense that in his first relationship after Haley's death, he might be a little flustered and awkward sometimes, because he's been out of practice for so long. Plus, I personally found the awkwardness kinda charming.

I also liked Haley, too, though, so this looks like a case of "agree to disagree" for us :p.

I also probably took this too much to heart because I'm so tired of being lumped into the "you only hate Beth because of a Hotch pairing" thing, when really, I hate her on other merits. LOL!

LOL, no, yeah, that's okay! My post did come off rather broad in its assumptions, so... It is frustrating when you get lumped in with other fans like that sometimes, for sure.

I love Hotch and Rossi moments. And there have been some adorable Hotch and Garcia moments. He's had some moments where he's let loose a bit, which I think work even more because they're so rare. Hotch is definitely my fave.

I feel a bit bad that I don't like Beth. The thing was, I knew the actress from CSI Miami where she played a really unlikable villain. And, I know she's playing a really nice character on CM but I couldn't divorce the roles so she rubs me the wrong way. I'm still glad that he found someone and had a cute romance.

I'm definitely on your side here. While I think Beth is a bit bland, I do like to see Hotch happy and that's something that's gotten rare again these past few seasons. Which is something I don't really get tbh. The other characters all went through very traumatic events as well but their general demeanor didn't change all that much. But compare Hotch from S1 to today's version and the difference is striking. Maybe I'm biased or over-reacting but dammit, I just want him to smile more.

I was happy, too that Hotch started being happy again and smiling.

I also stopped watching for a while but my reason was because it started getting absurdly violent. It was as though the writers wanted to top themselves as to what disgusting, over-the-top scenario they could come up with, each week. Luckily, they pulled back on this and the show became more about the characters and psychology of the profiling once more.
