I realise now anon, should have listened to you. Herpy is just as closed off in his little world as the other twit. Able to make complete life and job evaluations from 2 one line posts!

I've never been passed up for any job I've applied to.

Now, considering I have a few dedicated trolls who think I'm the worst person in the world (evidence in this thread): if my professional attitude is good enough to get me hired every single time, then there's a good chance that there's something amiss with how you're presenting yourself when you're searching for work.

If everyone around you seems like an asshole, maybe you're the asshole.

Getting passed up for one job (that you're qualified for, if they've listed qualifications) is sucky, sure. But if you're getting passed up for EVERY SINGLE JOB you've applied too, it's not too much of a stretch to assume that SOMETHING you might be doing (or not doing) is turning prospective employers off.

Whether that's your attitude, the way you show up for interviews (clothing choices, etc), or any number of things.

It's not unhelpful if it's true though.

If you have never been hired and there's nothing ostensibly wrong with you, then you need to look at the lowest common denominator.

The only lowest denominator right now is you and your plethora of assumptions and immediate desire to attack over one vague line about the difficulties of interviews and unsympathetic friends.

Have fun not being hired because there's nothing wrong with you and it's everyone else's fault, I guess. And damn the world for trying to suggest anyone improves themselves ever! Whether it be in order to look for a job, get fit, find a date, or solve relationship problems never forget that if anyone ever dares to suggest you need to work on something that person is evil incarnate and oppressing you.

There are plenty of reasons why someone doesn't get hired even if their wardrobe is proper, their attitude is sparkling (and so is their resume): the boss decided to hire his cousin, the boss decided to not hire anyone and instead make his workers take on another job (w/o being paid for it), the boss promoted someone from in-store instead of an outside hire, the boss decided for shallow reasons that he didn't like your face, didn't want to hire a man, didn't want to hire a woman, etc. .....

Are you serious? It's entirely possible to say something that is both true and EXTREMELY unhelpful.

You are being nothing but condescending and self-important in this thread. Not everyone's situation is the same as yours. Going after someone for saying something profane on Fandom!Secrets and acting like that they MUST talk to people like that IRL and OBVIOUSLY that's why they can't get a job is smarmy, patronizing and basically the definition of unhelpful.

Also, the fact that you were defensive and hostile off the bat in your first reply to OP without knowing what OP's circumstances are exactly, implies strongly that this is a hot button issue with you and that you're projecting.

I don't have a beef with you and I think your trolls are imbeciles, but I kind of think you're the one who should have a think about this situation, actually.

There was nothing defensive about my first reply. It just seems to me that very rarely is "everyone else" the problem.

Unless OP actually has some kind of disability or illness that is preventing places from hiring them (which they didn't indicate, rather they seemed to imply that other people thought they were outwardly employable) there's a good chance that the reason they're not getting hired is a problem with how they're presenting themselves to potential employers.

There's a good chance they're not getting hired because so many jobs now get 1000+ applicants. That's quite a crowd to try and stand out above.

But if it's really just a game of averages, then the solution would be to apply to a lot more jobs, would it not?

The number of jobs you can apply to in your geographic location, that you are qualified for (depending on education/experience), and physically capable of performing (some people can't be laborers), in your pay range, eventually levels off. The possibilities are not infinite. If there are 700 jobs and 3200 people applying for the jobs, the odds may not be in your favor very often.

Sure, but it doesn't mean it's easy to do. There's a limit to how many job apps you can put in each day--most places make you apply online, and they may have application processes that take several hours.

Your odds of success will be based on much more than just disabled/not disabled--level of education, experience, criminal record, your name (places can discriminate based on that), your address (places can discriminate based on that), your perceived gender (places can discriminate on that), your age, who you know, where you went to school, your skills, etc.

So projecting your own success on someone who's circumstances may be very different is just not a good idea.

And like the nonny said, the amount of job listings is finite. My hometown has about 30 job listings on the most popular job board. And while they may have lower amounts of applicants versus city jobs, if you apply for all 30 (which you can't, some require specific Masters degrees and things) if you get through all of them without an offer, you're stuck. New jobs are listed very, very slowly.

Even cold applying isn't a solution because you'll run out of places to cold-apply to. It's entirely possible to be stuck unable to get a job, with little to no way of moving forward.

OP didn't say 'everyone else' was the problem.

But if it makes you feel better to randomly tell people on the internet the reason they're not employed is because they present badly, you do you.

For all I know, OP has a swastika tattoo on their forehead and goes into interviews wearing only crocs and a thong. But I also happen to know that there are a whole lot of reasons other than 'debilitating health issues' and 'presents badly' that might make finding a job difficult, or make someone frustrated enough with the process to need to vent anonymously about a Pollyanna friend.
