Crafty McCraftersons!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
So I found this SUPER CUTE Labyrinth cross stitch pattern on Etsy the other day thanks to someone here who linked a Toy Story one, but it's $12 for JUST the pdf pattern.

I'm kind of turned off by spending that kind of money on just a pattern. I do appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating patterns (for anything, not just cross stitch), but it still seems really steep to me. :/

Can anyone recommend any good cheaper (or free!) cross stitch patterns? I do them while I watch TV to unwind so nothing that's like, 80,000 stitches and insanely complex. XD

This doesn't really answer your question, but I used to take pixel art (either game sprites or hand-made pixel art) and put it into an art program with a grid and worked with that. I didn't like what I found online, so I made my own patterns, I guess!

Oooh, that's a good idea though! I never really thought about making my own patterns. Thanks! :D

It was me! *evil laugh*

There's a bunch of free cross stitch fonts around on the internet. If you have a favourite quote you could make your own?
I got some old pattern books from an op shop for maybe 10c each and they have lots of border designs and stuff in them.

Thine is an evil laugh! :o

Oooh, I didn't know there were cross stitch fonts for free! I must explore this new universe. Thank you!

There are websites with free patterns. I'm not sure about any great ones. I'm pretty new to this too. I found some fonts just by googling "free cross stitch fonts" in images.

here's the disney font: http://my-cross-stitch-patterns.com/view-disney_alphabet_30x30_stitches_cross_stitch_pattern_free.html

Oooh, thank you! Yeah I'm pretty new too, I usually knit. XD But I saw people with all these cute fandom cross stitches and it intrigued me.

There are so many designs! I keep thinking about things I want to make for people. Mostly people who are me.
I think I'm going to have a go making a bookmark today. Fingers crossed! D:

https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/fiddlesticksau

That's the shop but from memory there's more than one Labyrinth pattern so I'm not sure which one OP likes.

Nice! I did eye off a few others and I've favourited a lot on my etsy account but I'm trying to have restraint and not buy more things until I finish what I have.

The whole site has bunches of simple patterns:

This lady's blog has some cute ones, too:

Honestly, Google and you'll find a bunch that way. Many sites that sell patterns offer freebies. Keep browsing etsy as well because not everyone charges that much for patterns.

Oooh thank you. Yes I went on a google rampage last night and found some really good beginner websites that had everything from supply lists and tips and tricks to some free beginner patterns. :)
