You basically either just breathe your air out really slowly and/or push it out just enough to hold the water 'at bay'. It takes practice, and if you're freaked about water up your nose at all/uneasy being underwater, it's hard to do. But it's the only way i know how to do it, and can't imagine swimming any other way.
