That would be basing the appreciation of art off classic guidelines. Which... I don't personally believe in. Again, something subjective. I appreciate you taking the time to reply, but you're trying to sell a bible to an atheist there, man. It's not fact, in the end it's still down to opinion.

No no no, I'm not saying that at all. I'm not basing anything off of classic guidelines. I think you misunderstood my argument. I'm saying that things are pleasing for a reason, and ever since then, they have been as well. Public opinion only makes things popular, not good.

Well yeah, but I don't believe something creative (art, music, etc) can really be called 'good' or 'bad' as a fact. Facts are something that can be scientifically proven, and you can't 'prove' something that depends on personal taste.

I'm not ragging on you, just to let you know. I kind of felt like that came out a little more ragging than I meant. Anyway.

So you're saying that there are no terms in which something of artistic merit can be measured? When I draw, when I paint, when I do anything like that; I put my heart into it. I grid it, I sketch and compose to flesh out a concept or an idea. Yes, sometimes I even do that with my icons—however, those pieces of art that I spend so much time on are no better/worse in composition and concept than the ones that people take five seconds to create?

I just want to know why you think those crops, and other pieces of art, are "good" without just saying something like "that's neat" or "that's nice," without giving some sort of bland response. If you want to get really heavy, we can talk about emotional impact as well, because that's also part of what makes something "good."

I think you're possibly looking too deeply into what I'm saying.

I'm saying one person could look at what you draw and like it, and someone else may not. Someone somewhere MAY like the five second doodles better. And neither can really be right or wrong because it's an opinion and not a fact. Facts can be proven. Opinions vary from person to person. You may find trends -- a majority can share an opinion on a creative work -- but that still won't make it a fact.

I never said it'd make it fact, I said there were reasons artwork is "good" and "bad." Besides, you're dealing with a deep subject. That's what art is, right?
