They definitely exist. My parents come from a small town. The population is around three hundred, there are two little stores, one bus stop (that's an hour walk away from my mother's childhood house), one church, one itty-bitty library, and tons of cows and agave plants. There used to be an internet cafe, but it closed because the owners moved away. The last time I went, I didn't know who anybody was except for a few relatives, but every single person I encountered greeted me with some variation of, "Oh, you're So-and-So's girl! Aren't you pretty? Your face cleared up so nicely! How's college? I heard you broke up with your boyfriend. Did you get to talk to (name of person I've never met before)? No? Do you remember the time when (mentions an event that occurred when I was two)? How come you don't get out much? I never see you at parties! Is that book any good? You always read really long books. I think you need to spend more time with people than books. Well, say hi to your parents for me! Tell them it's Corn Head (or some other random nickname)! They'll know!"
