My mom is from NV, and the COUNTY she's from has about 2k people. When she was younger she knew most everyone, or at least knew of their families.

It's really weird. I've been there a few times in my life, and often people know who I am just from my name, or guess what family I'm from based on appearance or something?

At least out there people tend to be very private and reserved. There's not a ton of gossip ime, even when you're "weird" like my family was/is. I lived in a small town in Missouri for a few years (about 3k pop iirc) and you couldn't go five minutes in public without someone accosting you to dish out all the dirty secrets of everyone in town. It was pretty awful.
