Why'd you kill off most of season 1's cast, especially Optimus, HASBRO?

(I know WHY they did it, but from a fan's point of view, it was completely and utterly stupid.)

Season 1 and 2, and I was no bothered by it back when I was a kid, but I suppose I was not deeply attached to any of them and liked Hot Rod in the movie, but yeah, Hasbro did bad back then and never thought to assess audience favourites.

On the other hand, it gave us the Optimus Prime revolving door of death as well.
