It's okay, OP, I wrote a self-indulgent canon-divergent gen crossover between Pacific Rim and one of my original series. Overwhelmingly noncanon characters, the Becketts are both killed very early in, and the only canon characters of any importance are Mako and Pentecost.

I didn't expect anyone to like it, and hardly anyone ever did, but IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.

.. and that's the point, at least for me. If you're having fun and aren't deliberately trying to ruin the fun of others, then just have at it!
