Yup. I think it is because a fortnight is the standard vacation here so it is a familiar unit of time and that as an adult a fortnight seems no big deal (most of us have either ridiculously rose tinted glasses about how hard school is, especially since lessons have got much more packed in the last fifteen-twenty years or are deluded about how smart their kids are) and don't remember or care to remember how long that seemed as a kid.
