I could see that but I still know it can vary by the boss and the industry, if a boss can put you somewhere where you aren't dealing with customers, some will take that option rather then letting you go home.

Sometimes going into work doesn't even have anything to do with how nice the boss is or not, if a company/store/whathaveyou is too small that they can't get a shift covered, bosses will make people stay. I've encountered a lot of sick salespeople and known a lot of friends who went into work sick before just because a shift could not be covered.

that makes sense. i've never worked for a really small place so that's never been an issue but i can see how it could be if there aren't many employees who could cover for someone.

Also, imagine if you *are* the boss and you get sick. I've definitely been in situations where if I can't work because I'm sick, then it's impossible for anyone else to work, either, and there's no backup.
