The doctor's excuse thing is terrible too when you aren't making enough money and/or aren't provided insurance at a job.

Like regular colds can make a person ill enough that they can't work but there's shit all a doctor can do about it unless you're about to die so it's stupid to make people go into a doctor for that. My Doctor even recommends not going into work with a fever but not to necessarily see them unless the fever doesn't go away.
