My own boy, Rowan, is super sweet and affectionate with me and a bit less with my sister (we live together). He's pretty friendly with my parents when they visit. He's the sweetest cat I've ever had (and he's 13, I dread what's probably gonna happen in the next few years). He WILL sit on my papers and shred them if we're not careful. When I'm in my easy chair, he lays to my side, on my leg and will do so for hours at a time. He sleeps in my bed (near my head) pretty much every night. He'll often follow me from room to room. He's affectionate with the one cat of my sister who lets him--they groom each other and play fight/chase one another. I think he's hissed/growled only a few times in his life.

My sister's two cats are annoying--one is very growly with the other cats, though won't fight them. The other one is just an asshole, esp when he gets jealous of Rowan getting attention.

Oh, yeah about being dog like: Rowan will catch kitty treats either directly in his mouth or between his paws and put it to his mouth (he learned this from my late cat, Blair, who was raised with a dog so thought he was part dog). As I'm typing this, Rowan is chasing a cat toy across the floor. Still loves to play.

Don't be so sure about the little furbeasts. Mine lived until she was 20, which was around 3 years longer than I thought she would; those last three years she was fighting renal insufficiency, but she kept on trucking and being fairly active and happy until maybe the last week or so.

I really hope Rowan lives to an old, old age for a cat--but healthily so, of course. *sigh* It's almost not fair how much shorter our pets lives are than ours.

Yeah... it's definitely a bittersweet thing. I wish I could have had my old Weirdo forever, but at the same time I'm also really glad to have the opportunity for Boy to come into my life.
