Re: For cat people

The "col, aloof, uncaring" stereotype was probably made up by someone who has never owned a cat, or someone who was a dick to cats and expected them to still worship the ground they walked on like a dog would.

I have owned probably a total of ten cats throughout my life, and I've been a shelter volunteer, and I've never met a cat like that.

I currently have two cats who are polar opposites. The one is a 5-year-old boy who I rescued as a kitten myself, and he is high energy, playful, snuggly, and has a little bit of a wild streak. He's naughty, very smart, but not mean. The type to dive out from behind something and grab your ankles. But he also snuggles like it's no one's business and will contort himself in the weirdest positions for maximum snuggles. He also plays fetch.

The other cat is obese, no matter how strictly we diet her, it takes a lot of coaxing to get her to move and play. She's skittish, she likes being around people (as in, snoozing near them) but doesn't like to be held or pet. She will occasionally snuggle but it's once in a blue moon. She's afraid of rugs and new things and is dumb as fuck, but I love her.

I have had that inkling for a while, myself. Seems like the cat stereotype is usually propagated by people who don't own or like cats, and are generally not the kind of people cats like.

If I can wander around my neighbourhood and have even the most shy cats eventually come up for ear scratches, they can't really be all that "aloof".
