It's not like he's the only one she felt she couldn't tell. Neither her family nor her best friend know either. And as contrivances go I think it's one of the better ones because I can see why might be difficult for her. Of course later on in the season there are reasons why I do think she should tell him, but they don't have anything to do with them being together.
