Re: For cat people
My family's first cat was a little standoffish sometimes but was quite gentle with me and my brother, we think she knew we were kids so kind of put up with us prodding her a bit and she used to happily let me scoop her up and carry her around when she barely let my dad do that. From what I remember she was mostly sweet tempered and adored my mum.
Our grey tabby was an absolute moron but a complete softy, loved to sit on or near people, loved attention and wasn't even remotely afraid of strange people coming into the house, it was just more opportunities for cuddles!
Our old black and white cat was pretty grumpy most of the time and only ever really loved my mother, she'd sit on me if my mum was away but otherwise she'd always be near my mum. She wasn't much of a fan of strangers but if mum was around she'd stick about for her.
My black cat was an absolute cuddle-bug with me but didn't care to sit on other people that much and he could be a bit aloof with strangers, he did enjoy sitting on any books/papers you were using though and liked to play with the pen your were writing with. He was one of the sweetest cats with me though and I could pretty much pick him up whenever I wanted, he'd come when I called his name too.
Our silver tabby really didn't like to sit on people much, he liked to be next to you but not on you. And he hated being picked up, he'd squirm like mad and try to get down(which was fun if we needed to pick him up to get him out of the living room at night). He was a good cat though and annoyingly smart, he could open every door inside the house and did it routinely to fuck with us.
Our mixed tabby is a grumpy as all get out mangly rat-cat. She's old and crabby and wants attention but very much on her terms, strangers are fine though because they might give her attention if she wants it.
And our fluffy black and white cat used to be a lot more aloof when she was younger, barely sat on anyone but my brother but as she's gotten older she's gotten a lot more cuddly and will come upstairs to see me most nights for cuddles. She's absolutely terrified of strangers though and will run away and hide from people she doesn't know(it took about four months of my bf visiting before she would come near him).
Tl;dr, none of my cats have been particularly cold or aloof, most of them wanted attention in some form but had different ways of needing it.
