I don't know. Diana never seemed as into the friendship as Anne, but Anne was so blinded by her imagination, she never noticed. If she ever did, that could be soul-crushing.

I always found Diana the most boring of Anne's friends, TBH. And other than the eternal declarations of bosom friendship, they didn't really seem to have much to talk about.

I found the friends she makes in Anne of the Island much more interesting.

I disagree. When they first met as kids, Diana was the child of privilege and Anne most definitely wasn't. Diana was from a "good" family, and this was a time when people didn't think very highly of orphans because you didn't know where they came from or if they had bad blood. It was a common, though silly prejudice. Diana went against that AND her parents' disapproval to befriend Anne, and while they might not have had the same personality, she clearly loved Anne and loved everything Anne loved for Anne's sake.

And, you know, it's not usual for people to name their kid after someone they weren't really friends with. Diana also went against convention by naming her daughter "Anne Cordelia" in Anne's honor, despite people thinking that 'Cordelia' sounded very outlandish. She did that for Anne.

I didn't say they weren't friends. I didn't even say they weren't best friends. But I still don't think Diana was as into the friendship as Anne.
