Yes, but in order to own one, you have to go through a Federal background check and submit fingerprints and photos to the government, plus you can only buy/sell/own automatic weapons that were registered with the government before 1986. It also takes about a year for the application to be approved - it's not like you can just go out and get one. They are very, very tightly controlled, not to mention very, very expensive (we're talking probably $10,000+ here).

True, and that is a good thing; all I'm saying is I can understand why people would like them to be outright banned.
