If you're an asexual in a same gender relationship, you're probably going to get as much flack as a non-asexual in a same gender relationship though. It's not like most gay/bisexual/whatever people have sex with their partners in public and that's the reason why they're discriminated against. Bigots just don't like the idea of them being in a relationship.

That's true, but I think some distinction is important. The act that was until relatively recently illegal in some states in the US, and in many countries around the world continues to be illegal and punishable by even execution, is gay sex. The distinction is important. An asexual person would probably get told off and harassed by a bigot with their same-sex partner, yes, but I guarantee if they told them they aren't actually having sex with this person and don't intend to, the bigot's rhetoric won't be as violent, since so much anti-LGBT rhetoric revolves around gay sex ("carpet muncher", "asses are for shitting not sex", etc)

At any rate, someone isn't an LGBT person for being asexual. They could be a "queer" person, if you will, despite being asexual.

DA

This assumes a bigot who calls people "carpet munchers" would be aware of asexuality and believe two guys who are married and in love go home and don't have sex and aren't just saying that. Chances are slim.

I think said bigots would assume they were having sex no matter what and wouldn't sit around listening to an explanation of asexuality.

At any rate, someone isn't an LGBT person for being asexual. They could be a "queer" person, if you will, despite being asexual.

That depends on the person, though. I'm not asexual, but my girlfriend is, and she still identifies as a lesbian/gay woman because she is a girl in a relationship with another girl. Saying being gay is only based on who you want to have sex with and not who you want to be in a relationship with or fall in love with just bothers me.

Unless you mean that someone isn't LGBT just because they're asexual, in which case I agree (since you used "queer" in the second sentence, I wasn't entirely sure; I didn't know if you were saying someone could be "queer" but not gay/lesbian or something) and you can ignore me. :P

Yeah, I meant the latter. A person isn't queer because they are asexual, but if they have romantic relationships with same-sex individuals they could arguably be considered queer.

Wait until you meet people who think you're gay if you aren't having het sex. (Or if you are having het sex but the wrong way, but I digress.)

I expect ace people got into the QUILTBAG because of all the dopes who'd call you a faggot if you weren't trying to have sex. And demisexuals get a version of it too for not being promiscuous.

But thanks for reminding us all that homosexuals can be freaky judgmental creeps to ace folks too.
