Throwing money at the screen

Anything on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Steam Early Access you've put your money into? Tell us about it!

I've thrown money at the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter and the Skip Beat one.

I don't buy things on Early Access anymore (got burned too many times) and my one time on Indiegogo was the infamous Chloe Sagal scandal. And I've never donated money to a Kickstarter before, but I finally broke my record when I came across this -- the idea of taking the alt-right cuckspiracy theorist movement and turning it into a Lovecraftian horror novel just seems brilliant to me and I'm amazed nobody's thought of it first.

Will also be backing the System Shock 1 remake Kickstarter when it launches.

I feel really scuzzy about it, but I backed the Escaflowne Blu-ray Kickstarter.

Ooh, they're gonna release Escaflowne on Blu-ray? Why do you feel scuzzy about it?

Nope. I don't back Kickstarters or Indiegogo on principle.

Then why post?

Not recently, but I have put money towards a few successful and a few unsuccessful Kickstarters. One of the unsuccessful ones was for a game called "Welcome to Aberford", a zombie game set in the 50s. I thought it looked really interesting, but I didn't really expect it to make its goal - they didn't have enough material already made to draw people in, and their financial goal was too high.

As for successful campaigns - there was one for the omnibus edition of a webcomic I'm very fond of, Digger. I actually already owned every volume, but I and my mother put in enough to get the omnibus anyway. :)
There was also a campaign run by a friend of mine, to fund their YouTube series: an episodic musical about people playing D&D. They made their goal, they got my money, aaaand... two years later, they have one episode up. I have no idea what happened to the rest of it. >:(

What happens to your money if they didn't reach the end goal? Does it get return to you or

Kickstarter only takes your money at all if the campaign hits its goal. I think some of the other platforms just take your money one way or the other, though.

Oh man, let's see... a Queer Japan documentary, a BL comics anthology (which... has disappeared?), animated projects MOJO and Urbance...

Seriously, I was into crowdfunding years before Kickstarter and Indiegogo hit the scene, but was DELIGHTED when they appeared! A science comics anthology that I'm in is actually up for funding right now and passed it's 50% mark just a day or two ago! *excited*

I hate the way Kickstarter has effected the bird game market. If you want everything now, you have to prepay before the game even exists. I don't know how to play, if I'll enjoy it, or even if I'll find anyone who wants to play it with me, I'm not ready to buy the game just yet.

I know I Kickstarted Arcadia Quest because it looked fun and there was a lot of Kickstarter exclusive stuff, and then when I got the game I immediately put it up on E-bay because I just couldn't financially justify not doing that

Many days to go and fully funded!

Not yet fully funded :(

They're both cute indie games. The first is a genetics system and the second is weather/God type play

I put some money into the Circuit Scribe one a while back. I actually got my kit a while back that I'm keeping so we can teach my nephews and nieces about circuits when they get a little older. I've played with it a little and it's pretty cool, though I don't have the brain to do anything really creative with it.
