For whatever reason. For some reason, you just can't stand the romantic ship for these two fictional best friends, even if they're the same sex and therefore "ugh I'm tired of the man and woman always being an item" isn't an issue.

(Sibling incest examples don't count).

I never got on board with Ron/Harry, but A) I've never really cared for Ron and B) at the time I was really into Harry Potter, I was between 10 and 16 and I really liked things that were angry or angsty, so I was mostly into rivalshipping.

Arthur and Martin (Cabin Pressure).
Spock and Kirk.
Shane and Rick (The Walking Dead).

Though the last two I can ship if a third person is there.

Merry and Pippin (not sure why, I do sort of ship Sam/Frodo)
Celebrimbor/Narvi is not my cup of tea. I prefer them as friends
Remus and Sirius. Though I do ship Sirius and James. Also don't ship Remus and James. Or Peter and any of them.
