Re: Favorite LOTR scenes

Books: the scene where Sam is tempted by the Ring but shakes it off because the idea of being supreme gardener of Mordor sounds stupid to him and why would he want to take care of a garden that big anyway. It's just so perfect and powerful a moment in the context of all the grand tragic millennia of Middle Earth's larger-than-life power struggles and grand operatic mythology-scale ideas.

Movies: For movie-specific scenes, the one with Boromir teaching Merry and Pippin to swordfight and getting tumbled over by them and laughing. IMO it just makes his death defending them a million times more poignant.

Favorite song: I just really like the song of Beren and Luthien, the portion of the Lay of Leithian that Aragorn sings.
