Write to the places that do it wrong and correct them, tell them to do better in the future. And consume media from the areas of the world where your group makes media.

"Write to the places that do it wrong and correct them" unfortunately often results in the writers going into a huff and saying "well since I'm doing it wrong I won't write anything with a character from that group anymore".

... try correcting them in a polite and friendly way instead of "Ur doing it wrong how dare you not be perfect" maybe?

Might work but sometimes, people are just waiting to be huffy about things, no matter how nicely and politely you correct them.

Actually, for me it's not being "huffy".

It's that I'm genuinely embarrassed for getting things wrong, so it's safer to "stay in my lane" than risk making another major faux pas.

Which is why I stick to cultures in my writing that I have a good working knowledge of so the likelihood of messing up is greatly lessened. (As in 20+ years of studying that culture or more)
