I can see where that'd be tiresome. Like you, I still find characters to identify with, even if they don't share my race. But I also allow for the fact that there are POCs who grew up far more marginalized than I did, who might have a greater need than I did/do to see themselves represented in the media. I'm not going to dismiss their need just because I didn't feel it to the same degree.
