I have to agree with OP's friends and family; unfortunately write-ins and third-party votes have (IMO) very little impact. However, Optimus Prime is a solid choice. I sort of wish he could be our president now...

Eh, I don't see the harm in throwing away your vote if you're not in a presidential swing state and you still want to vote on downballot issues
