I'd rather stop while I'm ahead and leave 'em wanting more than have a story overstay its welcome (like some long-running TV series I could name...).

This. I have a few one shots where people ask me if I'm going to write the rest and... there is no "rest of the story". It's basically a "they probably lived happily ever after the end" kind of thing, and people might think they want to see a wedding and babies and all that, but honestly? That's boring.

Is that a riff on The Simpsons? lol it overstayed its welcome a long time ago, but they got back on their feet somewhat the last three seasons.
