Re: Books that would make a terrible movie, but an awesome TV series

I think the Silmarillion could make a great tv show. There is too much there to even do just three movies. But I think it could be a very interesting cable tv show. It is dark enough that it would be appropriate for HBO or something like that.

The Oz books would also make a great tv show I think.

I've been thinking the same thing about the Silmarillion for years. A Cable show would be great!

I actually think that maybe a "Tales of Middle Earth" series where it's expected for some episodes to just be side-stories that aren't about the main cast/arc (though with the plot of the Silmarillion being the main arc) would be best. Because the Silmarillion has a lot of bits where crucial information or highly interesting ideas are either hurriedly exposited or just skipped over because they technically have nothing to do with the story of the Silmarils.

NBC has something about Oz

It was ordered to series last year (10 episodes) and I think it's supposed to air some time this year. http://www.nbc.com/emerald-city

Not actually following the books, though. I want an actually faithful adaption.

I didn't see the title of your post at first and thought for a second you were talking about a Silmarilion seres and couldn't fathom how anyone got Christopher Tolkien to agree to that!
