That double standard is very deeply entrenched in American culture. So deep that most people would never realize it on their own, and even if it's pointed out to them, they're likely to get defensive about it rather than having an epiphany about how as a society, we're okay with seeing peoples' heads blown off, but even consensual sex between adults is a huge no no.

You don't even need actual sex, a glimpse at a female nipple is enough to get the pearl-clutchers into their "think of the children" frenzy while the exploding heads left and right don't even raise an eyebrow.
