Have you considered looking at those companies that help you stay with someone who rents a room? I can't recall the name right now. Airbnb I think?

If it doesn't bother you, options like that (or a hostel but I"m honestly not sure is the US has that many) would be cheaper than a hotel

Our little group of four rented through Airbnb last fall in London. The apartment was ok, but all the hidden mail and that the promised wifi didn't exist was scetchy as hell. I'm not using them again, no matter the low cost.
