Book club - thoughts about posting times

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-05-21 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
So it's a Saturday, and in a very unusual circumstance, my tourney was very small and short today, so we got out a couple hours early, and I didn't go try to hang out with friends because I have a family obligation later this evening. So this will probably be, like, the only time this year I'll see an F!S post on time on a Saturday!

Since I'm here (and I'll make this post again tomorrow), I wanted to talk about weekend discussion posts. A lot of people have said they like weekends, so I wanted to know if people wanted to do a dual post for Maurice, or maybe just do it on the weekend. The thing is, it'd have to be the first Sunday in June, which is like...the 5th or something, because I'm going to be busy all day on the Sunday before (going to the 500 this year!) so I think maybe this time we will do a dual post or just stick with the previously-planned Tuesday. BUT, for June's book (Dragon Thief), I think I am going to hold the initial discussion on a Sunday and see how that goes.

Thoughts?

I'm in favor of Sunday posts in general, but I can't do Maurice in specific though.

Is it The Amazing Maurice (and his educated rodents), I'll be in for that

Noooo, E. M. Forester's 'Maurice,' which is an old gay soapy romance novel. Totally unrelated to Terry Pratchett.

Lol. I'm certainly looking forward to your insights.

Oh, I'm not part of the book group! I just know Maurice because I've read it already, haha.

Again, I'm in for whatever is convenient for you. As a named user, I get the comment notifications and I remember you and I had a fairly nice discussion the last book round that went back and forth a few days.

Personally, I think it would be best to stick to the previously agreed date (31 May) for Maurice, and after that hold the discussion either on the last Sunday of the current month or the first Sunday of the following month. That way people would still have two different dates to choose from every month.

A dual post for Maurice though is imo not a good a idea, because splitting a small discussion into two different places will only kill it faster. Linking back instead would be better, I think.

Do you mean we should do one on Sunday and one on a weekday starting in June?

No no, not at all. I mean the one(!) Maurice discussion stays on the previously agreed upon Tuesday. And after that, starting from June (Dragon Thief or whatever it was called) we'll do the discussions always on Sundays, since Sunday seemed to be a good day for most people.

But WHICH Sunday could be variable, since we would always have two Sundays to chose from. For example, for June it would be the last Sunday in June OR the first Sunday in July. So that if for the majority the first Sunday in July is better than the last Sunday in June, people could communicate their preference so that we might get the highest potential participants for the discussion.

Of course, that's only a suggestion (because my Sundays vary a lot). If for the majority every Sunday is as good as the other, we could simply agree to always do it on the first/last Sunday etc.

Ha, sorry. It was clear in my head. ;)

SA

But it would always be just ONE discussion.

Oh, alright, that does make sense! That's more-or-less what I ended up doing, too. (I think if it's between two Sundays each month I'd default to whichever one was closest to the last day of the month, but well see what everyone prefers.)
