Netflix has exclusive rights to Disney/Marvel/LucasFilm/Pixar starting in September

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine how much they had to pay for that.

It sounds good at first until it's basically "recent" ones. So the entire (Canon) backlog might not be there Unless Disney wills it so.

I wish they would have struck a deal with GKids too.

"Recent"...I get the feeling that if I was in a "Disney Princess films ALL OF THEM Marathon" mood, it's not going to be via Netflix. Netflix so far has just kind of teased me with their Disney catalogue. "Here, have Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Lilo and Stitch, but no, we will not give you The Sleeping Beauty or even The Jungle Book!" *sigh*

That and Netflix needs to bring back Samurai Champloo.

The Night Manager

Has anyone seen this? I am debating whether or not to wait to watch it for when it gets on Amazon

I'm absolutely loving it. I haven't seen last week's episode, but it's been really good. I tried to read the book, but I couldn't do it.

So far the show has been done brilliantly. The casting is perfect and I really love the director. I sat in and watched it with the director and Tom Hiddleston when it premiered at Tribeca, and it was interesting to hear them talk about filming it and the history of it.

My mom says it's really slow moving but really good.

Re: The Night Manager

It's good, but it's a weird watch if you've read a lot of Le Carre. My dad's a huge Le Carre fan (and got me into his books when I was younger) and his comment on the show was "I don't remember there being so many young, tan people. Or that much sex." It's still an interesting watch, albeit a little strangely paced. But very well-acted and if you're into fashion at all, Elizabeth Dibecki's wardrobe is AMAZING.

I have, it's excellent, one of those slow build kinds of plots... slightly reminiscent of James Bond. Tom Hiddleston is great in it, and so is Hugh Laurie. Olivia Colman plays a pregnant spy and she's also fantastic.

The first episode is slow; I haven't even finished half of it. I gave up.

Last episode tonight on AMC!

Let's see - very well acted, some of the visuals are amazing, it's pretty good at keeping tension high after the first episode, the timeline is a little weird, though.

HODOR!! The reveal and his death was tragic and amazing. Probably the death that has gotten to me the hardest. Just the change from Hold the Door to Hodor was phenomenal. Also, Summer died which I guess some people really care about.

Sansa standing up to Littlefinger was fantastic. Sansa has probably had the best character development in the series. I really hope she ends up being the Queen of the North.

Still enjoying Tormund totally wanting to get with Brienne. Tormund when Brienne is around = O.O

Asha Greyjoy is the bomb and I am glad they stole their shitty uncle's fleets. Though, no wonder the Iron Islands people look like a bunch of filthy, poor pirates. Their election system consists of the winner being whoever gives their speech last so they get their name chanted last.

Still really don't care about what is happening across the sea.

Yep, Hodor's death got me the hardest, too. That whole scene/flashback was quite well done, I thought.

I liked Sansa giving Jon the fur cloak or whatever it was.

It was great that Theon stuck up for his sister when the people were pushing him to become king. The election system kind of pissed me off, too.

Totally shipping Brienne/Tormund.

I had to work Sunday night so Monday morning I talked to my sister and asked her how GoT was, and she said she didn't quite like it. And then when I watched it, I cried and told my sister that it was sad. She just nodded and said, "I didn't like what happened to Hodor, that's why I didn't like last night's episode."

That cartoon where the person turns into a ball of tears and feels when someone says to them, "Hold the door," will be me if anyone ever says "Hold the door" to me.

I don't even watch Game of Thrones but all the gifsets from the last episode have been making me emotional.

Star Trek

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-05-24 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Just finished my Deep Space Nine rewatch and started my Voyager watch. It is amazing how much tv you can get through when you can't do anything else.

Anyway, I'd love to talk about Trek if anyone else wants to. What I've gathered from this rewatch is that Deep Space Nine is still my favorite. I love that series so much. Jadzia and Kira are still my favorite Trek characters ever, I still don't much care about Ezri, and I came out of this time shipping Garak/Bashir where I shipped Bashir/O'Brian before. But other than Garak/Bashir, I'm all about canon ships for this show. I love them all. Jadzia/Worf is still my Trek OTP.

Also, now on season 3 of Voyager. The first couple seasons aren't actually as bad as I remember. But it does get much stronger once they are past the whole Kazon and Seska thing. But still, I think this show gets more criticism than it deserves. And I like Janeway a lot. Chakotay is still a useless racist stereotype, but I like the other characters.

Also, I recently read an article that said that originally 7 of 9 was going to replace Harry, but someone higher up decided they wanted to get rid of Kes instead. I think losing Harry would have been better. He's basically useless other than his friendship with Tom. I like him and all, but season 3 Kes was really starting to show the potential of the character and I wish she'd stuck around instead.

Re: Star Trek

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I heard a rumor back in the day that they replaced Kes because the actress had a drug problem. No idea if that's true, though. I liked Harry the way one likes a cute puppy, but he was very, very bland.

I know she had (actually still has I think) a drug problem, but from what I understand it started after she left Voyager. That's exactly how I feel about Harry: cute puppy but bland.

Re: Star Trek

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Might be true, because she was in the news within the past few years and it sounded like drugs, mental health issues or a combination of both.

Shadowhunters

Does anyone know some blogs dedicated to this? Preferably with fanart reblogs.

Late reply! But, this is the Shadowhunters blog I follow, with a slant towards Magnus/Alec but they post plenty of other stuff for the show too:

It doesn't have fanart reblogs though but I like it for my Shadowhunters needs.
