It was cliche as hell and straight out of fic and stupid (something I complained about as it was airing) and I both love and hate it because Daddy!Tony was adorable.

And this just plays into what was always going to be my headcanon once I found out Michael was leaving - Tiva are going to live together happily ever after off-screen (now with the added addition of Tali) in Paris (because she's alive and that's where she went).

And now that Michael's done, I'm gone. He was the only thing holding me back from dropping the show in the first place.

haven't seen this episode and probably never will, but is that like a secret daughter that he had and never knew about? because I fucking hate it when tv shows do that (I'm still mad that gilmore girls did it, ngl)

please tell me that ziva isn't the mother, because that will just make it even dumber (I'm not even against Tiva. I'm just against this plot device)

Sorry, Ziva's the mom (and she's "died" off-screen but nobody's buying it because there were so many plot holes and hints that she's still alive).

And the only time the "secret kid" plot line has worked for me is Private Practice, tbh. All other shows, I fucking hate it with a passion.

Ugh, that disappoints me (but it doesn't surprise me)

I do remember the Private Practice one though. I remember it being pretty melodramatic, but it was also genuinely touching at times (I liked the relationship between Charlotte and Erica. They had some good moments together before the latter's death). I think it initially annoyed me because Cooper and Charlotte had been through so much together that revealing a surprise son just felt like piling it on at that point, but I liked it more as time went on.

Yes same! And Charlotte and Mason's relationship was just so sweet and one of my favorite aspects of the show as time went on.

Yeah, it was pretty cute. I really like it when shows have step-parents who have a very positive relationship with their step-child (and with the child's biological parent. that's pretty rare in television)

You mean tiva fans aren't buying it. Y'all need to realize she is dead and gone in canon. Do what you like in fanfic, but don't keep trying to say it is canon. It just makes you look even more pathetic and desparate than you already are.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, did you literally just discover the internet yesterday? Any half-assed writer knows if you really want fans to buy a character's death, you either show the body onscreen or devote a fuckton of plot and character time to establishing they're dead. Otherwise sit your ass back and enjoy the conspiracy theories, because nobody's buying an offscreen "death" that riddled with plotholes. Ziva's totally alive.

THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE HATES THAT GILMORE GIRLS DID THIS SAME CLICHE SHIT.

I haven't watched NCIS in years, but when I heard that Tony's actor was leaving, I decided to watch it with my grandparents, just for old times sake

Man, was I disappointed

Really, writers? The only way you could think to get rid of Tony is by killing Ziva offscreen and saddling him with a kid? REALLY?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, ITA. I found out what had happened before I saw the ep but figured it couldn't possibly be all that bad. It was. The girl and Tony's interactions with her were adorable, but also contradict everything we've ever been told about how Tony's around kids. I mean, there are several farewell articles on the NCIS site CBS has that mention 'Tony's worst fear' as being kids.

As for the rest of it, a lot of his goodbye was rushed. His plot was eclipsed (once again) by Ziva's, something I hated years before she left, so I definitely didn't want it for his final episode. I wonder if maybe MW left on bad terms or something, because it's a weird send-off for such a major character.

This also made the decision to stop watching the show easier. I was still undecided before the finale, but now...I'm going to try to keep informed as to what's going on, because I do still care, but not enough to actually watch it anymore.

OP

Agreed with pretty much all of this. MW did do a solid job with the little girl (definitely shows his talent), but between the surprise baby and the ridiculously convoluted case, I felt like it wasn't really an episode about saying good-bye to Tony. Also, as a huge fan of the Tony and McGee brotherly-love chemistry, I'm super pissed that they didn't have a bigger moment together. These guys have been working off each other like mad for 13 years (since before McGee/SM was a regular) and all we get is a quick hug goodbye? I don't think so. Of course, considering we didn't get to see McGee show much emotion over Ziva leaving I can't say I'm surprised.

I will probably keep watching just because McGee is my favorite character (so, as long as he's there, I can't quit him) but damn I hope they stop defaulting to the terrorist plotline for every other episode. I miss the early seasons when the crimes weren't all terrorism and huge, complicated devious plots. I mean, those are fine once in a while, but they don't need to be the entire season.

I liked it. I don't care if I'm in the minority.

And I really don't care if it's a "fanfiction" ending. We need more of those and less of the endings we get.

Um, no, we really don't.

I agree the moment was a bit cliche.

What irked me about the episode, and this irks me when it happens in other shows too, is that everyone said goodbye like they were never going to see Tony again. I mean, they are all still friends right? They will surely still see each other outside of work. I know people get busy and stuff, but it's not like they will never hear from each other again. There is email, txt messages, skype, letters, photos, facebook etc. I wish writers would remember that it's 2016, not 1986. We have so many ways to keep in touch its ridiculous.

I don't know.

More melodramatic and ridiculous than:

Ziva killing her turned half-brother after he killed Kate?
Them engineering a fake prison escape for a killer with Tony undercover as a fellow prisoner?
The children of the man Gibbs killed after that man killed Gibbs' wife and daughter coming after Gibbs in a very convoluted plot?
That whole thing with Deering?
Gibbs and Kelly's friend ending up in a car underwater and Tony shooting the windshield and rescuing them both?
Abby's surprise biological brother?
Ducky's secret younger brother?
Tony and Ziva undercover as married?
Tim's book plot being carried out in real life?
Tony getting the plague?

Those are just off the top of my head. I mean, it feels like that's the place the show goes to when they want to have some big moment - something over the top.

Re: I don't know.

Yes, more melodramatic and ridiculous than all of those. Maybe on par with Abby's surprise biological brother.
