Re: Nerd Elitism

"You're not really a nerd, because nobody made fun of you!!"? No. The prerequesite to being a nerd is to be nerdy about something. Reaction to your nerdiness has no factor.

Kiddo, back in my day being a nerd was something that got you lit on fire very literally.

And?

It's a GOOD thing that nerds aren't marginalized the way we used to be. Why would you act like one has to be abused or bullied to be part of a group? It kinda makes it sound like the abuse/bullying is a necessary rite of passage and not an actual bad thing. :/

Uhhhh... That's exactly what I just said in my original comment? My lingering definition of being a "nerd" is something I still associate with being subject to bullying, but I also just said I realize it's a good thing that's no longer as much of a problem.

Also in my original comment I made sure I mentioned I don't actively decide who is and isn't a nerd. It kind of follows that I'm not treating anyone differently.

Well, in your original comment you made it sound like you were thinking about and correcting this knee-jerk response, but in the comment I replied to, you were just a straight-up ass. Calling someone "kiddo" is rude and condescending and definitely makes it look like you're judging them. (Hence why I responded to that comment with criticism, and not your first.)

Sure. That's true. But that anon who responded to me ignored the part of my comment where I hashed out those details, as if they just read the first sentence and decided that I was judging whether or not people were "nerds" based on whether or not they were bullied.

So yeah, I responded tersely to someone not taking into account what I actually wrote.

I expect they were responding to the kneejerk reaction bit.

Considering someone has been trolling me for the past three weeks idk what to think about these kinds of anon comments anymore.

In that light, you're probably right. I guess I should apologize under the assumption that I'm misreading intent.

Oh, herpy, you flatter me so. I'm 33. So, "kiddo" not so much. Thanks for being a condescending ass, though.

K

Edit: It's probably too late for you to see this, but I apologize. I was probably misinterpreting your intent with your comment. I assumed you were trolling or deliberately ignoring parts of my comment, and that was shitty of me.

Sorry, anon.
