By that logic, someone who watched every football game of their favorite team and knew all the stats of the players and could recite past championships and epic failures and knew all the coaches for the last two decades would be a nerd, and make football a "nerdy" fandom.

I mean, yeah, sports nerds are totally a thing imo, but the mainstream perception of "nerdiness" is not there.
