I'm also not interested in shipping young characters. Jake and Nog were among my least favorite DS9 characters. I just wasn't interested in them, so why would I ship them?

Same. I thought the show did a good job with them, and they weren't as horribly annoying as most kid characters, but I don't want to read/write more about their inner lives.

You expect DS9 fen to ship canon pairings?

Actually, Kira/Odo and Worf/Jadzia are pretty popular, and they are canon. Although Garak/Bashir is more popular, I wouldn't say the fandom doesn't ship canon ships at all.

I sort of have this feeling about Quark/Odo. When I was watching DS9 (way back when it was coming out and I was fairly young), they were a hilarious team but I couldn't get past Quark's looks. Now, I totally ship them.

Slowly getting past and even kind of liking Quarks's looks is a real and strange thing for many, it seems like.

This is probably true. I'm not particularly superficial when it comes to shipping, I've shipped a lot of characters I didn't find hot. But Ferengi are just too unattractive for me. I also can't ship Quark/Odo, even though I love their dynamics and would probably ship them if they were hotter (tbh Odo is just as much uncanny valley for me as the Ferengi are).
