Unfortunately, it's difficult to pin the blame on that on any one person or entity...I suppose big name producers could step up and case more variety, but they'd definitely get some backlash for that, sadly.

Yeah honestly from a 'business' perspective it's hard to blame them. Big names sell. Big names mean people will often see films they might not have otherwise, so it's hard to convince executives to take risks when it's pretty much their business on the line.
