This entire idea that EVERYTHING MUST BE SACRED and you can't DO ANYTHING that may seem to be even a BIT controversial is fucking stupid.

It's a standard trope: evil guy/group goes back in time and either kills/brainwashes/rewrites main hero's story to fit THEIR narrative, only to find out, later on, that ultimately, you can't change that person at their core.

Cap isn't some how ~magically~ immune because of his origins back in the 40s.

Jesus christ I am fucking SICK of this fucking policing.

You can do things that are controversial

A lot of people think that this particular storyline is fucking dumb, in part because of Cap's origins, in part because they think it's fucking dumb

Are people not allowed to think that something is fucking dumb? What the hell kind of a bullshit position is that?

I didn’t say that. I'm just tired of the fucking policing.

How precisely do you distinguish between "a bunch of people thought something sucked" and the dreaded policing

Re: Captain America:-General spoiler warning

(Anonymous) 2016-05-26 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Because most of the people who are vocal about it sucking are arguing from a social justice standpoint--it's EVIL and WRONG to have this story arc because Cap fights Nazis and therefore Marvel hates Jews.

Because it gets turned into policing. Because "sucked" gets turned into "this is sacred, never do this" and that's fucking bullshit.

YOU guys, except for a handful, may not be doing that, but Tumblr and a few other places ARE and they can go eat bags of cayenne pepper covered dicks.

And no one would care if you got hit by a bus. So do us the favor and get hit by one, ~fam~.

While, yeah, this kind of plot is nothing particularly outrageous and new in itself, the thing is: What Cap did was taking this picture of the stereotypical Arian Übermensch and turning it on its head - the very ideal of Nazi imagery was very, very much not a Nazi.

Going the exact opposite route with this now is just lazy and stupid, as well as massively ignorant of the symbolism in the original story.
