13. LOL. No. It's fine if you don't like the music, that's respectable, but they actually grew a spine, to use your own words, by taking their music in a completely different direction than everybody (critics, fans, random people like my sister) thought they would. Also, and not to be stupidly cliche and quote what they've written, but they have changed, so if they wrote an album like Fever, it wouldn't be who they are at all.

Except not really.
Since the entire basis of their change was because they were upset people called them "emo". That's not growing a spine, that's pussy footing around so that people wouldn't make fun of them anymore, and looking for an escape route. They aren't Panic at the Disco anymore. They're Beatles Version 2.0, and that's not very impressive.

When did they ever say, specifically, that they changed their sound because they didn't like being called emo? I'm pretty sure it changed because they started to listen to music from 60s/70s and they were more inspired by that than whatever they were inspired by before.

If they did say that somewhere, please link me, I'd genuinely like to read about it.

They didn't. But it can hardly be coincidence for them to completely change their music, stop wearing makeup and have a different style, right after all the emo!band wank.

I can definitely respect wanting a new sort of music, of wanting to be a band that's remembered- but they didn't do a good job, at all, of how they changed.

If they'd made a nice happy medium between the two styles for this CD, I'd be less inclined to tell them to grow a pair.

I kind of already said this to the commenter below, but if you just don't like the new sound, and wish they had stayed similar, then I wouldn't have a problem with that. I just don't see how creating a whole new sound for themselves since they weren't inspired by the sound of the music they made for Fever anymore, means they have no balls. Creating a new sound for themselves is the ballsiest thing they could have done. That's the part of your secret I don't agree with.

I agree that they are taking a good step by changing I hate it when people bring out albums that sound the exact same as the last but to be honest, it really disappointed me so I will have to agree with 13. I feel like they sound too much like The Hush Sound plus older bands. They say they drew their inspiration from older bands, but they risk sounding exactly like them. I feel like they could have done a better job than this.

Still, not going to slander this band too much because I do like them and some of the songs on Pretty. Odd were decent.

I think not liking an album/band because of the music they create is fine. And I can totally see how they're kind of wavering the line of sounding a lot like the bands they say inspired them. What really upset me was the "grow a spine" part because changing their sound so dramatically is not taking the easy route, at all.
