Jon is the character Grrm wishes he was, Tyrion is the character actually sees himself as, and Dany is the character he wants to fuck.

This. It's pretty damn clear these three are the main characters. Everyone else is expendable and it's not at all surprising when they die. Ned Stark was KIND OF a twist, being the protagonist for the first book/season, but it's pretty clear who the real main characters are and I have no idea why anyone is actually debating where the endgame is going. It's not rocket science and the books aren't as unpredictable as people claim.

I think Tyrion could die, but it'd be at the very end.

The author's self-insert makes a heroic self-sacrifice? No. No!

(I honestly prefer show!Tyrion to book!Tyrion in no small part because his actor has made him into his own character, and not GRRM's self-indulgent mouthpiece.)

Heroic self-sacrifice and badass death scene is pretty much guaranteed, assuming he does die at the very end, which is where I'd put my money.

The sad thing is there are people who will think that that scene is legitimately badass and heroic and not just wish-fulfillment and it kills me inside.
