Be careful with the books. I haven't been that impressed with the new books, but loved all of Legends and they won't make any sense because they don't exist anymore in the continuity.

I love Star Wars, but yeah, the fans are crazy.

Yeah, my brother's been a huge Star Wars fan my whole life so he's my go-to source for questions about the universe. He's mentioned the continuity thing. I'm really torn about the whole Legends/Canon thing. On the one hand, I'm interested in the First Order and what happened to Luke and Kylo and everything from the new movie. I'm not sure I want to get invested in something that has no bearing on the new movies and characters.

On the other hand, I hear how awesome the Thrawn Trilogy is and about all these interesting things that happened in the Legends books and I'm curious. I also have situations where I'm developing a story for a SW fic and I need some kind of bad guy or race and there's a handy one that's already been made but I'd feel weird to use them without reading the context. I don't find Wookipedia has enough information for me. I'm also not too sure that I want to fall in love with new characters who aren't going to be in any of the new movies. But I hear people talking about them and it sounds really interesting.

I'm really torn!

Thrawn is the best place to start if you're going to read them, really but if you want to sort of just get new worlds without really feeling like everyone will be ripped away, I love Stackpole and Allston's X-Wing books. It's the Republic against the remains of the Empire and just what I love about Star Wars, action and good characters and world building.

Honestly, the books that have come out so far ANSWER NOTHING! Bloodline by Claudia Gray is a very well-written book but it screws with my headcanon because in the book Ben is 23, still going by Ben and doesn't know Darth Vader is his grandfather, Han and Leia are still together, and Luke's with Ben.

So I don't know what to tell you other than I love the old books. Zahn is such an amazing author when it comes to capturing the characters and worlds.
