What? When I was a teenager, people warned for those basic things all the time. And why does anyone need a warning anyway? No one reads published novels expecting warnings.

lol, my first fic encounters as a teenager had NO WARNINGS. AT ALL. I was scarred. But I turned out alright and have particular kinks/opened views about sex. So not a bad experience, but I can see it being a bad experience for others.

Actually, it's pretty easy to find out what potentially triggering material a book (or movie) contains. Five minutes on Wikipedia will generally do it.

Fanfiction doesn't have that resource, hence warnings supplied by the authors themselves.

Yes, now it is. Except Wikipedia also spoils the plot, if you care at all about spoilers. Of course I'm also the sort of person who goes in a book store and doesn't look up info about the book online because it ruins the experience for me.

I don't apply fanfic rules/courtesies to books.

Personally, I'd rather be spoiled than triggered.

You are missing out.

Wikipedia didn't always exist. Anyway, I think anyone who can't read a book or wstch a movie or TV episode without putting it through a vetting process should probably find themselves a stunt reader for fanfic if they can't trust the warnings and tags to completely cover everything that might possibly upset them. Or just not tead fic.
