There's a dude who works in a "fox rescue" and owns foxes. I have strong feelings about this and as a result, dislike him.

I'm confused. Is owning foxes a bad thing if they're adequately and properly cared for?

Woops should have clarified, my strong feelings are about "fox rescues" in Australia, because they're an introduced pest. Even owned, they're not domesticated - they're wild introduced pest animals in a special enclosure with the risk they can get out and continue doing their foxy thing. Which I don't blame them for, they're foxes, but I prioritise native life and healthy ecosystems over foxes.

I have similar feelings about wild rabbit rescues (if those exist).

I don't think they should exist in Australia. I think they're a big ass giant risk to take wild foxes and keep them in little pens rather than having them PTS. I think it is irresponsible to divert resources to keeping these wild animals in captivity, the risk they can get out, they cannot be vaccinated appropriately because they're foxes and I do not think there should be a flipping fox rescue. I get it, they're cute and interesting! They're also a natural disaster! Go support a fox rescue in a country they're native to or something FFS.

(They are desexed and cannot be sold onwards or released so they cant go anywhere except escaping or the fact that some of the people in the rescue talk about letting it run around the house which is a) against the laws on owning one and b) what if it gets out it may not breed but it can still cause a lot of trouble!!!).

ARGGHHHHH

Is this a case of he "rescues" foxes, but has ulterior motives, like keeping them to open up a breeding mill? Or do you hate the fact that he keeps wild animals as "pets?"

Sorry I didn't clarify, strong feelings on "fox rescues" in Australia.

I hate that he is keeping an introduced pest species as a pet. 50% because with all the enrichment in the world, those (wild) foxes are under some strict rules and regulation in a small cement pen and I do not think that is kind but okay wiggle room and 150% introduced pest animal who cannot be vaccinated and causes shit loads of harm if it gets out.

And I'm cranky because he's cranky that I'm reporting a free ranging wild fox to the council on monday, which is likely to result in 1080 baiting because nobody has the resources to try to catch it and take it to the vet or to their goddamn fox "rescue".

Like it sucks that it's going to die slowly and painful, but it sucks less than all the birds and frogs and native wildlife in the area dying because of it.
